He served as the Head of the Department of History, Pune University for several decades in addition to being one of the most prominent leaders of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh. A polyglot and polymath, Dr. Shastry was widely read in Indian and Western literature, Indian and world History, several areas of Indian culture and spirituality.
